Join the Global Switch Off

Join with millions of people all over the world for WWF's Earth Hour 2010

Exams, coursework, tea with friends, phone calls to your nan; it can be hard to find the time to tackle climate change. Luckily, the World Wildlife Fund’s Earth Hour gives busy students the perfect opportunity to put pressure on the Government to take positive action.

On 27 March at 8.30pm, over a billion people across the world will be joining together and turning off their lights for one hour. It might seem like a small action in the face of such a huge problem, but with over 88 countries taking part, it’s a massive public statement of support for action on climate change. With the failure of politicians to find a fair, global deal at Copenhagen, it’s more important than ever that we do everything we can to show governments that we care about the climate.

You can sign up as an individual or a group. Why not get your People & Planet group to sign up together and turn it into a ‘Switch-off Social’ by having a candle-lit meal or playing some games in the dark (the P&P office highly recommends sardines!), or you could try and persuade your Union to turn off the lights in all of its buildings.

Watch the film, sign up, and join the global switch off.
