People & Planet and The World Development Movement have called a week of action to get taxpayer owned RBS out of tar sands ‘blood oil’. With the RBS AGM on 28 April, just 8 days before the expected General Election, the time for mass action has come: get involved by joining the Skype planning call - 6pm, 30 March.
From 24 April to 1 May, groups up and down the country are taking to the streets outside branches, emailing candidates, and calling on their MP candidates and any new Government to stop RBS backing tar sands companies. Since they were bailed-out, the now 84% taxpayer-owned bank has backed tar-sands ‘blood oil’ companies with financial arrangements worth $2.5bn.
To get involved in planning the week of action to end ‘tax money for blood oil’, take part in an online Skype meeting on 30 March at 6pm with People & Planet groups across the country, and Clayton George Thomas-Muller - co-ordinator of the tar sands campaign for the Indigenous Environment Network.
Adam Ramsay from People & Planet explains how:
“1) At least 2 days before the call, sign up to skype if you haven’t before.
2) At least 2 days before the call, check if the computer you’ll be using has a microphone and speakers. Most do, but if it doesn’t, then you’ll need to go to a computer shop & get a headset with a mic. This shouldn’t cost more than £5.
3) at least a day before, email me on adam.ramsay@peopleandplanet saying that you want to take part, and telling me you skype name. I will then “add” you, and you need to “accept”. Alternatively, you can find me on adamAramsay (no need to capitalise the ‘A’ - I’ve just done that to highlight it), and I will “accept”.
4) Log into Skype just before 6pm. click on my name, and I’ll add you to the conversation.”
Louise Hazan, climate campaigner at People & Planet, said:
“RBS has taken billions from UK taxpayers and used it to back the most abhorrent projects on earth. We’re calling on everyone to stand up and say enough in solidarity with First Nations activists. Please join the Skype call to find out how you can get involved in cleaning up RBS”
