Lauren King, St Andrews University student and People & Planet ‘Tar Sands-Free’ campaigner, has just won the Sheila McKenchnie Foundation’s Environment campaigner award. She was presented with the award at a ceremony hosted by Jon Snow at St Martins in the Field in Central London.

The Foundation was established in 2005, in memory of the life-long campaigner Dame Sheila McKechnie, and the awards aim to recognise and support people who are making exceptional contributions towards a range of social justice and environmental causes.

Lauren was recently 1 of 8 People & Planet activists to return from Northern Alberta, building solidarity with the Beaver Lake Cree first nation community, and developing a stronger firsthand knowledge of the impacts that the tar sands are having on people and the environment.

Could Lauren help launch the ‘Tar Sands-Free’ campaign at your university or college?

Lauren and the seven other exchange students will be speaking around the UK, raising awareness about the tar sands and pushing universities to stop banking with tar sands-supporting banks.

If you’d like to have one of them speak at an event or film screening (we have tar sands films to lend), send Liam an email to arrange details.

Or order your own ‘Tar Sands-Free’ campaign pack using the form below.
