As the date for the much-delayed European Fuel Quality Directive (FQD) vote quickly approaches, People & Planet is working with a range of partner organisations to ramp up the pressure on the UK Government, which so far refuses to support the EU’s de facto tar sands ban.
What you can do about it
We’ve just launched a new e-action, to keep the pressure on Norman Baker (who many of you helped flood with messages in December) and his boss, Nick Clegg, in the run-up to the vote next Thursday. You can take and share the new action yourself.
People & Planet activists in Oxford, joined the UK Tar Sands Network and Lush, for a Valentines Day ‘Oil Orgy’, highlighting the overly cosy relationship that has emerged between the Canadian and UK governments in regards to the tar sands.
And finally, we are working with Campbell Road Productions, to launch Taking on Tarmageddon, the documentary about our tar sands youth solidarity exchange, in London, on Tuesday 21 February. Register here to attend the free screening.

So what are you going to do to keep Europe ‘Tar Sands-Free’? Street theatre? Letter-writing parties? A public stunt to highlight the hypocrisy of the UK’s ‘greenest government ever’ supporting the tar sands industry? Whatever you choose to do, let us know! tarsands@peopleandplanet.org
