Quiz Nights

A man thinking

Organise your own quiz night

Quiz nights are great! Suddenly what was previously a social handicap is now your greatest asset- that slightly embarrasing knowledge of Neighbours, the new romantics, or prime minister’s pets is suddenly rewarded with a pat on the back and a new level of respect from your mates - well, at least until you get one wrong in the next round. Quizzes are straight forward to organise, and can be held in all sorts of venues- from cafes and pubs, to your common room!

We’ve written down below the things you need to think about to get it off the ground.

Venue

Find a venue with enough space that attracts a lot of people anyway:

  • Ask local pubs and cafes, maybe somewhere you work or hang out. You’ll find friendly owners and staff will be keen to help you out - it’ll attract loads of extra customers and they may even help you out with a prize!
  • If you do it during term time, what about your union bar or cafes, or a cafe or common room at school or college during lunch time?
  • Or, you can even hi-jack an aready established quiz for a night and get all the proceeds to come to People & Planet!

Themes

Think about what audience you are trying to reach, what sort of venue or setting you are doing it, and whether or not you have the time to preapre a full Q&A quiz.

Here are some ideas for themes:

  • A music quiz if it’s in a trendy music hang out
  • Link it in with a forthcoming sporting event such as the Olympics, World Cup or even your school sports day.
  • General knowledge
  • An ‘ethical quizz’ (popular at the People & Planet Forum in Leeds 2006).
  • As part of the previous People & Planet ‘Stop Esso’ campaign , we devised a Stop Esso quiz and a set of accompanying cocktails with names such as ‘oil slick’ and ‘Kyoto Krusher’! Why not devise your quiz around one of your People & Planet campaigns?

Prizes

Can be cheap or blagged! How about…

  • Asking a local shop or buisness for a contribution to your charity event?
  • Ask the venue to contribute something- if it’s in a pub, then a bar tab or bottle of wine

  • Email the fundraising team - to let us know what you’re doing so we can publicise it on our website
