Redress Fashion Call to Action!
May 1 is International Labour Day so lets join the movements on the streets in a national Day of Action
Leeds University P&P derobe en masse
The next Day of Action against Topshop is soon with us, so lets show them our usual ingenuity, pizzazz and anger against their sweatshop labour conditions.
The theme is International Labour Day, as the Day of Action is on May 1st, a time all the anti-G20, labour rights activists and trade union movement will also be out on the streets to challenge a capitalism sleepwalking into mass poverty and climate chaos.
So let’s join them with a ‘rich vs poor’ costume theme, bring out your Philip Green business suits, masks and top hats, and bring your rags to represent his sweatshop workers. The message can be that now the G20 Summit has passed, Philip Green can’t hide his money in a tax haven any more, so he can’t hide his workers’ conditions either. So how about a game of hide and seek in Topshop to represent this? Now the banks are getting more regulated, will garment corporations too be forced to stop getting rich from other people’s misery, and face tougher regulation?
As with our Christmas and Topshop fashion show actions, the theme is set but the action details are up to you, so bring out your best media stunts, direct actions, ingenious tricks and tell Topshop to join the ETI and stop paying slave labour wages, as well as respecting freedom of association.
Then take the campaign to your nearest Topshop, and join the movements out on the streets to celebrate International Labour Day. Remember to tell the local and student media what you’re doing so Philip Green feels the heat.
