Getting to Shared Planet

The Shared Planet 2007 cylists

Each year, a handful of brave P&Pers get sponsored to cycle to Shared Planet

Shared Planet 2008 will be at The University of Birmingham. Here are some details on how to get there…

Train

Birmingham is at the hub of the UK rail network with direct train connections from many UK cities.

The university has it’s own mainline rail station, just 7 minutes out from Birmingham New Street station.

You can check rail times and fares with National Rail. You need to search for trains to ‘University (Birmingham)’.

Remember to book as far in advance as possible to get the cheapest fares.

Travel Tip for Londoners: London to Birmingham New Street takes 1 hour 30 mins if you go from Euston station but you might find cheaper tickets if you use the Chiltern Railways line from London Marylebone to Birmingham Moor Street (2 hours 20 mins) from £12 return if you have a young persons railcard. It takes 10 minutes to walk from Moor Street to New Street.

Coach

National Express coaches run from across the UK direct to Birmingham, they have special Autumn coach deals that mean you could get to Shared Planet for £3 each way!

You’ll arrive at Digbeth, Central Coach Station, very close to Birmingham New Street train station. See arrow on map

Megabus also has very cheap tickets if you book early. They stop at The Priory Queensway Stop, also within walking distance to Birmingham New Street rail station. See arrow in this map

An Adult return train fare from Birmimgham New Street to University is only £1.70

Private coach or Minibus

If you’re coming to Shared Planet in a group, it might be easier and cheaper for you to hire a private coach or self-drive minibus.

If you do this and you have extra spaces then let us know using the form below. We’ll list all of the coaches and minibuses with space here so that event goers from near each other can travel together, keeping costs and our carbon footprint down!

Driving and parking instructions are available from The University of Birmingham.

Cycle

It’s become something of a tradition for some people to make their way to Shared Planet by bike each year. If you get people to sponsor you for your efforts and you raise more than £100 for People & Planet, then you can have your Shared Planet ticket for free, plus we’ll give you a high vis People & Planet branded vest to cycle in!

Get in touch if you’re up for the challenge and we can help you out with your fundraising.
