Going Greener: Universities
Going Greener with student allotments - help your uni transition to a low-carbon diet
This year Go Green made the transition to the next level. Our new campaign brings students and staff together to create and achieve their visions for low-carbon, low-energy and future-proof universities. Based on the Transition Towns movement, Going Greener is about a community-led, DIY approach to tackling climate change and peak oil. From practical projects to creating institutional change, Going Greener will ensure that unis play a leading role in the UK’s transition to a low-carbon future. Going Greener programme highlights:
- Workshop, Going Greener: Creating Transition Communities
- Workshop, What’s Your Transition Vision? Get ideas from the UK’s first student-led transition initiative, the Student Switch Off campaign and more
Go Green: Schools & Colleges
Schools and colleges should be beacons of sustainability. The Go Green campaign is helping them to cut their carbon emissions and focussing on 4 key areas: energy, transport, waste and food. From Switch Off energy action days to long-term change, now is the time to get campaigning, learn how to communicate the dangers of climate change and make a real impact on the carbon footprint of your school or college. Go Green programme highlights:
- Workshop, Cut the Crap, Let’s Cut the Carbon, practical projects for your school or college
- Workshop, What’s Your Transition Vision? Start visualising what green schools and colleges of the future could look like with help from Go Green visionaries
Ditch Dirty Development
Will RBS investments tip the world’s climate over the edge?
The Treasury has spent billions on bailing out the UK’s dirtiest bank, Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS). RBS continues to pour billions into climate changing projects and companies that fail to uphold human rights. What’s wrong with this picture? This year, we have an opportunity to make sure both the Treasury and RBS clean up their act. Public money should be spent in the public interest – that means financing a just transition to a low-carbon future. Ditch Dirty Development programme highlights:
- Panel debate, RBS: Financing the New Green Deal, with Ann Pettifor author of the New Green Deal and the lawyer who took our DDD campaign to the High Court
- Workshop, Clean Up RBS from direct action to MP lobbying - find out how you can get involved
