In regular contact
Contact with the office
P&P support staff want to hear from you!
Keeping in contact with the support office is really important for you and us to know what’s going on with the network. If you don’t tell us about your successes or problems, we can’t support you as effectively. There are all sorts of ways you can keep in contact:
- Email your support intern in the office with regular updates
- Sign your intern up to your email list (see below if you don’t have one)
- Phone us for a chat, particularly if you need advice
- Post in any action cards or photos
- Use the comment boxes on the website to put your point of view across.
- Use the web forum and online journal set up by the network to communicate with one another
Contact with your group
Case study- Prince Henry’s School
Prince Henry’s P&P group set up an e-mail list to make sure everyone stayed in contact. At their meetings, they made sure everyone knew about this and was able to sign up. As a result everyone in the group was able to keep up to date with what was going on.
Case study- Cheadle Hulme School
Cheadle Hulme Fairtrade group used a noticeboard so that everyone knew what they were up to in school. They regularly updated it with photos, news and to advertise meetings. This made it much easier to recruit Year 12s into the group and carry it on for the next year.
Set up good communication systems such as:
Noticeboards
See if there’s a space on your existing school noticeboards to publicise your group. Put up meeting dates and other info to keep people in touch even when they can’t make it to meetings.
E-mail lists
- Ask everyone in your meetings to note down their address.
- Email providers will allow you to make lists. This option will usually be under ‘Addresses’.
- Add in the email of everyone who is interested in your group.
- Email this list each time you’re having a meeting or an event.
These can save work, help spread responsibilities and keep everyone informed and interested, especially if they canĀ“t make every meeting. It’s worth keeping a list of email addresses and phone numbers so you can still contact the group during exams and holidays. However communicating over the internet is no substitute for meeting regularly , even if it’s only for a short time when you aren’t planning a lot.
