You may decide to set up a group after a People & Planet workshop in your Sixth Form, or from finding out about us another way. Either way its important to have a good first meeting.
You will need to get some people along to your first meeting, so you may like to think about some different recruitment ideas. Once you’ve got some contact details, you could follow this 10 step plan to kick-start the group:
Case Study- Prince Henry’s P&P group
Prince Henry’s group in Worcestershire held their first meeting and 22 people turned up! They took a list of names and email addresses and agreed to set up an email list to publicise meeting agendas and minutes. They went on from this first meeting to do all sorts of exciting things such as running Fair Trade stalls, taster sessions and writing to the government of Nepal about human rights!
Students plan for action
1. Book a room from your Sixth Form that will accommodate 20 students. Make sure it has a whiteboard.
2. Contact all the students on the list to let them know the time, room name and how long it will last, you shouldn’t plan for longer than 1 hour.
3. Email your support staff in the P&P office with the details and any questions you have at this stage.
4. At the start of the meeting play a quick icebreaker game so everyone can get to know each other.
5. Ask them to think up ideas that you could do at the school. Its important to write down ALL ideas.
6. Everyone can put a dot next to the idea which they would most like to do.
7. Suggest they pick the three ideas with most dots to focus on.
8. Explain you will plan for your 3 actions at your next meeting at which time you can delegate roles.
9. Set a date and time with the group, that most people can make.
10. Contact your support staff in the P&P office to let them know how it went and any questions.
