Top Tips
- Be creative.
- Plan well in advance.
- Work out a realistic target.
Case Study - Steyning Grammar
The group at Steyning Grammar in Sussex raised an amazing £400 by running a Fairtrade party. Complete with information on Fairtrade for attendees and a Fairtrade chocolate fountain, the party was a huge success. We were really greatful when they donated this money to P&P!
Fundraising can complement your campaigning and by raising money for your group or People & Planet, you will be able to do more. Sixth Form P&P groups constantly surprise us with the fantastic fundraising events they run and the huge amount they raise.
Raising money for your group
Some groups fundraise to raise money for themselves. Some of the things this can go towards are:
- Buying Fairtrade samples.
- Booking venues and acts for events.
- Paying for travel to national P&P events.
- Printing publicity.
Planning
It’s worth thinking creatively about this - what event would raise most money in your Sixth Form? Would a football tournament go down better than a cake sale?
Who are you trying to raise money from? This will affect how you do it and how much you expect to get. For example are your trying to get £1 off lots of students in your Sixth Form or big donations from parents?
Set a target for fundraising that will cover your costs and leave you with an amount that is worth the effort. Make sure this is realistic. Its better to set a low target and exceed it than not reach it.
