In the run up, the group gave assemblies for all years to raise awareness about the global epidemic, how the disease affects the UK, and what the school can do to make a difference. Red AIDS ribbons were sold during the week, and students paid £1 to wear red instead of uniform in support of the campaign. Sixth Formers got to be big kids, dressing up as superheroes and villains!

The highlight came on Thursday 27 November when Cheney held it’s second World AIDS Day Concert in the Performance Hall. The night was a huge success, showcasing Cheney’s huge diversity of talent bringing, including singers, dancers, poets, rappers and pianists alongside an X-Factor themed drama performance. There was a silent auction of original pieces from Sixth Form artists and a raffle of a Fairtrade hamper, courtesy of the Co-op. The group used the opportunity to take action on AIDS getting the audience sign action cards for the Stop Aids Campaign (for more info on this visit stopaidscampaign.org.uk. All refreshments sold on the night were Fairtrade, preparing the group for our next campaign challenge: Fairtrade Fortnight, watch this space!
