  • 5pm Welcome to the Summer Gathering - Britain’s student activist training camp. You’ve arrived! Give yourself a pat on the back. Then say hi to all of the other amazing students who are here - if past experience is anything to go by, some of them will be friends for years to come.

  • 7pm: Dinner the first of many delicious veggie meals cooked and served by us

  • 8pm: Film night: Enjoy a new series of films interviewing activists at the forefont of the most exciting movements in the UK over the last 40 years and hear what they learnt from their campaigns.

  • 9pm till late: Merriment around the bonfire

Workshop at the Summer Gathering

10am-11am: Morning circle, introductions. This is your chance to get to know everyone here. We can guarantee they’ll be lovely.

11:30am-12:30pm – How did the world get so messed up? And how do we fix it?: a brief history of austerity, debt, and the global economic system. - Nich Dearden, Director, Jubilee Debt Campaign.

12:30-13:30 – lunch - yum yum yum

13:30-14:30 – Britain’s place in the global movement against sweatshops: victories, losses, and where we go from here.

15:00–16:00: 10 year anniversary of Go Green campaign - help us celebrate a decade of creative student action to improve our universities’ climate credentials - with special guests & live interactive art TBC

16:30-18:00: A preview of People & Planet’s bed-wettingly exciting new Fossil Free campaign. Because if we don’t keep fossil fuels in the ground, well… you do the maths! :-/

18:00-20:00 – Dinner, frisbee and chat nom nom nom

20:00-21:30 – Where next for People & Planet’s campaigns, events and democracy? Your chance to put forward and discuss ideas as a student network

21:30-00:00 - Bonfire, chat, merriment, fun, and other synonyms thereof.

9:30 - 10: Morning Circle

10:00–11:30: Global Power Shift: how to link your campus campaigns to the global Fossil Free student-led movement**

12:00-13:30: Fossil Free Action Planning for Freshers Week 2013: building a movement on campus, creative action and communications training.

13:30-14:30 lunch - mmmmmmm

14:30-16:00: The Burning Question Author Duncan Clark and special guests debate the role of Investment and divestment in fossil fuels and the risks of climate change (advanced)s

Scoop School - Taking forward the Student Food Co-ops movements in 2013/14 and beyond

16:15-17:30: Running awesome meetings (intro) (including planning public meetings to recruit people on campus and participatory decision making)

OR

Fossil Free UK Tour Team Training (advanced) - How to host a big Fossil Free campaign event on your campus in October 2013

17:45-18:45: Planning for the year ahead - including freshers’ week, regular meetings, and building a strong active group.

OR

Fossil Free T-shirt printing and banner making workshop - Get creative with some paint for an eye-catching start of term in October 2013!

Thursday 4 July

09:00-09:45 – sweatshops, Buy Right, the Workers’ Rights Consortium and Electronics Watch.

10:00 – 11:00: intro to Labour rights in the garment and electronics industries

OR

Sweatshop & labour rights activist meet up/skill share

11:30 - 13:00: How to be awesome at lobbying powerful people (coz sometimes it’s useful).

OR

How to work well with Trades Unions (coz they’re lovely)

13:00-14:00: lunch + Student union sabbatical meet up (loads of People & Planet members/friends won student union elections this year! Which is sweet. So this is a space for you to meet and plot).

14:00 – 15:30: Liberation and solidarity campaigning: making sure that everyone is included in your group.

OR

Escalate to win: from asking nicely to occupying: how to get what you want in 10 easy steps.

16:00-18.00 A masterclass in making activist films. Together we’ll create films to help launch the Fossil Free and Buy Right campaigns in 2013-14

OR

How to be an awesome spin doctor: using the media to win your campaign.

18:00-19:00 – Planning for the year ahead: mapping out your campaign priorities.

19:00 - 20:00: dinner

20:00 till late: Awards ceremony and talent show round the bonfire
