Stop the Tar Sands Day, June 18
Boreal forests are ripped up to extract tarsands
People & Planet tar sands action
Thousands of ducks are killed each year, landing in toxic ‘tailings ponds’ leftover from tar sands oil extraction in Northern Alberta. The ponds cover hundreds of square kilometres and can be seen from space. They are made up of a chemical cocktail that has become associated with a range of health issues in both local indigenous communities and animal populations.
People & Planet activists across the UK will be getting ‘tarred-and-feathered’ on June 18. They plan to highlight the impacts of tar sands extraction on the water fowl population, as part of International Stop the Tar Sands Day.
Videos of the actions will be posted here on the day itself.
