The Board of Trustees, the Management Committee, is composed of 8 student trustees and 5 ‘senior’ members including this post. One of the distinctive features of P&P is the extent to which decision-making is led by the students. This is an exciting time for the organisation as we have created a flat management structure and the Management Committee is more actively connected to the staff Management Team.

The staff (currently 12) includes a part-time Finance Manager.

The sort of person we are looking for

An experienced financial manager with a strategic grasp of Third Sector issues, who is willing and able to support young people in achieving the aims of People & Planet. Being able to travel to Oxford (or London) on average four times a year would be helpful.

If you would like to discuss the role please call him on 07976 329212. If have we more than one suitable candidate we use a selection process in which we assess the candidates and the candidates assess us.

Background to People & Planet (P&P)

P&P (formerly Third World First) is the UK’s leading organisation working with young people to develop their awareness of global issues of poverty, injustice and the environment, and their capacity to take action for change. It has a long history of successful campaigning and engaging young activists who have later moved on to become senior members of other, larger NGOs.

It is currently expanding its consultancy presence in the school and FE sectors whilst continuing to support a national network of student groups.

A Scottish operation has just been launched. Funding is largely grants from statutory bodies and charitable foundations. Unrestricted income from consultancy and sponsorship is growing. Income from personal giving is comparatively low, due to the age profile of most of our supporters, but we are aiming to grow income from ‘alumni’ and other well-wishers.

P&P is in the process of merging a charitable trust and company limited by guarantee into a single charitable company which is to be the vehicle for moving forward. It has also relocated its national office into central Oxford.
