P&P groups from all over the UK find all sorts of ways to take action every year on World AIDS Day. The day is always an incredible success for the network.

The World AIDS Day Bus

People & Planet and members of the Stop AIDS Campaign took to the road on World AIDS Day aboard a big red double-decker bus. But this was no ordinary London bus - it was covered inside and out, floor to ceiling with thousands of photos of supporter´s eyes! Read more

Brighton University

Katie from Brighton P&P group said “Brighton University went all out on World AIDS Day and held a stall at every campus on the day. The environment group hooked up with the uni´s LGBT group to man stalls selling ribbons and cakes. Everyone wore red and had lots of fun on the day. Petitions were also being signed all day long and free condoms were given out. All together £470 was raised- half of which will be winging its way to People & Planet”.

Sheffield P&P group take action on World AIDS Day 2005

Sheffield University

Daytime events included stalls selling cakes and ribbons, with everyone wearing red, or plastered in facts about the effects of AIDS. In the evening, outside the union the group staged a candle-lit vigil. More pictures from the event can be seen at the Sheffield P&P website.

Frensham Heights 6th Form

The P&P group raised £130 for P&P by selling ribbons and raised awareness through a great video that they had themselves made! The video had snippets from the dvd given out in the P&P AIDS packs as well as a quiz and some footage of students acting out global AIDS figures.

On World AIDS Day in 2005 Aberyswyth University P&P group sent ‘Tony Blair’ around campus to meet people. He was pursued by giant eyeballs who were ‘watching’ him to see if he kept his promise on access to AIDS treatment.

Aberystwyth University

The group at Aber did an `eyeball squadron run´ around the campus, with someone dressed up as Tony Blair who shook hands with students, whilst being followed around by people with Eyeballs! They also collected about 70 photos of people’s eyes for the eyeball photo petition, and raised £55 for People & Planet!

Nab Wood Grammar School

The group made and sold buns with red ribbons and chocolate flapjacks to students on World AIDS Day raising £42.15 for People & Planet. They also ran workshops to students in years 10 and 11 about AIDS.

Balcarras 6th Form

Although it was pouring with rain on the day, Balcarras P&P managed to get their whole school, of about 1,200 pupils to stand outside and make a human red ribbon!

Birmingham University

The P&P group worked alongside the StopAIDS Society and baked loads of cakes with iced red ribbons to sell on the day, as well as taking photos of people’s eyes for the eyeball photo petition. They raised £50 for P&P.

Warwick P&P group fundraise for People & Planet’s TREAT AIDS NOW campaign on World AIDS Day 2005

Warwick University

Warwick P&P together with lots of other societies held the first World AIDS Day event ever to be held at their Union. They had stalls with information and selling ribbons and collected over 500 signatures for the Make AIDS History petition. In the evening they held a free Masquerade Party in the students´ union where there was music from a local African drumming group and African dancing as well as a live band. They raised money though selling masks, balloons and red ribbons. They also showed an AIDS awareness video, and there was a talk by Duncan Guest.

In total the day raised £1071.19!

Edinburgh University

Edinburgh People & Planet joined with the Student Stop AIDS Society and held a human aids ribbon action on Bristo Square, next to the Students´ Association building. People held red letters for MPs above their heads and photos were taken for the press, and there was a letter writing session. The Students´ Association organised a balloon drop with loads of long pink condom-like balloons being let off when the human AIDS ribbon was in place. These activities rasied awareness of the group´s AIDS campaign and lots of ribbon selling raised money for People & Planet.

Greenwood Dale 6th Form

Two students from Greenwood Dale P&P raised a brilliant £80.16 for P&P by selling red ribbons on World AIDS Day.

Chace Community School 6th Form

Emma from the group said “We managed to sell the ribbons from P&P and raised around £50. I was suprised how many people at our school didnt´t even know it was World AIDS Day! But I think we raised some awareness”.
