We are still taking applications for our exciting volunteering roles. Volunteering is a massive amount of fun and will give you great work experience and the opportunity to make a real difference too.
All positions are based where you live and include support and training, plus your expenses are covered (please check each role description to confirm details).
P&P is also offering the chance for your volunteering to be formally recognised through a volunteer accreditation scheme.
Please remember that you can also get involved in the People & Planet group in your university or sixth form.

Volunteer positions up-for-grabs:
Green League 2010 Researcher
Volunteer researchers play a crucial role in compiling and analysing the information needed to produce People & Planet’s award-winning Green League - a league table of universities’ environmental performance published annually in the Times Higher Education supplement. The roles involves:
- collecting and compiling responses to the Green League 2010 survey of 133 UK universities
- analysing responses provided by university environmental managers
- assessing the evidence provided against defined criteria
- internet and telephone research to follow up missing evidence
- working as a team with other research volunteers and the Green League project manager
- being part of a high profile and respected project which has already lead to significant improvements in environmental management in the HE sector.
- the ability to work accurately and efficiently to meet fixed deadlines
The role runs from March - June 2010 and will require approximately 2 -3 days a week commitment. Download the full job description and details of how to apply for the role.

Regional Representative
Regional Reps are crucial to supporting and growing the P&P network of university and college groups. We still have vacancies for Regional Reps for 2009-10 in London and South Wales. The role includes:
- Helping to support People & Planet university groups in your region through advice and training;
- Facilitating the formation of new People & Planet groups.
- Organising a regional training day for the university groups in your region. You could also help groups to communicate with each other, coordinate campaign actions and transport to national events such as Shared Planet;
- Communicating the views and needs of university groups in your region to the staff in the support office;
- Helping to promote People & Planet’s campaigns and events to university groups in your region.

Campaign Advocate
Campaign Advocates play an integral role in the development, promotion and delivery of People & Planet’s award winning campaigns. Focussing on a particular issue, Campaign Advocates will do any or all of these roles:
- Deliver campaign training, workshops and issue specific talks.
- Work with the support office as a reference group for the development and delivery of campaigns.
- Be well briefed on P&P campaign policy and in turn act as a peer communicator and media spokesperson.
- Take part in lobbying meetings on behalf of People & Planet.
Campaign advocates can alternately specialise in one part of campaigning, for example communications or media, and get more specialised training and skills this way.

Group Support Volunteer
Did you know that more than half of all of People & Planet’s campaign groups are in schools and colleges? Imagine what these budding groups could achieve with ace campaigners like you to support them! This is your chance to help set up and support a new Sixth Form People & Planet group in your area or help to make an existing group even better. Its great opportunity to build up the network and get experience working with young people.

It’s time to bring P&P into the Web 2.0 age, by making use of all the exciting creative communications tools that are out there, in particular blogs and the media of films…
Recently we set up a People & Planet grassroots blog but to make it a success, we need you to make it happen.
Would you like to become a (relatively) regular P&P blogger? The blog will provide a space for covering pretty much any topic that sparks your interest, and can be as opinionated, controversial, radical, informal as you like.

People & Planet is looking for a number of volunteers to put their research skills into use to help develop our Go Green and Corporate Power campaigns. Are you a dab hand at internet research, interested in environmental management or in finding out which universities are purchasing goods made with sweatshop labour?

Media Representative
Media skills are such an important part of getting group actions noticed and promoting People & Planet campaigns that we’ve decided to create a volunteer role dedicated to helping us get our campaign actions and stories out there. If you’d like to help support your People & Planet group with their media skills and get those important campaign actions plastered across the front page of your local newspaper, then here’s your chance.

Communications Volunteer
Comms volunteers work to communicate their group’s campaigning activities to a wide range of audiences. They will also be regular contributors to P&P’s website and termly newsletter, The Activist.

Fundraising Representative
Fundraising is vital to our campaigns and the strength of the People & Planet network. This year P&P have created a new role to support our fundraising team. As a Fundraising Rep you’ll help to promote the importance of fundraising to your group and the wider network, organise fundraising events and write news stories for the P&P website and newsletter about fundraising activities.

Diversity Volunteer
If you’re based in London or the East Midlands and want to inspire the next generation of campaigners why not get stuck into a great new role which focuses on engaging new students in further education colleges.
As a Diversity Volunteer you’ll help to find new exciting ways to get a more diverse range of students campiagning with People & Planet. This will include working with the P&P staff team to organise regional events, creating new P&P groups in your region and assisting groups in making plans to make People & Planet’s events, like Shared Planet, accessible to all.
Training for Diversity Volunteers is taking place on December 6th in London. We are very excited to welcome along to the training our special guest facilitator Shilpa Shah who has tonnes of experience working on global issues with groups from a variety of backgrounds.
