Why bother?
Just like these students at Sibford School in Oxfordshire, you can help your school or college cut the carbon and Go Green!
What’s the problem?
All over the world, and particularly in poorer countries, people’s lives are being destroyed because of the extreme weather conditions which are a result of climate change. Climate change is caused by humans spewing loads of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere (to find out more about the science behind climate change check out this site). The gas which is causing the biggest problem is CO2 (Carbon Dioxide), which is released when we burn fossil fuels to power all sorts of things from planes to playstations.
What can we do?
Schools and Colleges emit loads of this carbon dioxide but the good news is that because you spend loads of time there, you can do something about it! It might not be your favourite place, but students should make sure that their school or college is making the world better, not worse. You might not have much control over who your teachers are, or what you get to study, but you can help your school to Go Green!
Head back to the Go Green home page to take your first steps towards becoming part of a sustainable school or a carbon-free college!
If you want to find out more about climate change then why not ask your school or college to arrange for People & Planet to come and give a workshop to your class?
