After years of student campaigning, the University of Bath has pledged to fully divest its money from Fossil Fuel companies.
The university currently has fossil fuel investments of half a million pounds including over £100,000 in Shell alone.
After 3 years of campaigning from the People & Planet society, the university has agreed to no longer support the oil and gas industry through financial investments, joining over 60 other UK universities who have committed to divest.
Nicholas Liu, Chair of the People and Planet society at Bath said "I speak on behalf not just of Bath People & Planet but also the 1,500 and more students who have signed our divestment petition. We are all very happy to hear that the university is ending its involvement with fossil fuels and we sincerely hope that this will bring further changes to make Bath more sustainable".
Tanguy Tomes, member of People and Planet Bath, said "Huge news that our university is finally divesting from fossil fuels. I'm beyond thrilled and very proud of all the student campaigners who've got us here - it really feels like the campaign is picking up momentum nationally".
