Universtities committed to divesting from the border industry

So far 6 UK universities have committed to divest from the border industry.

  • October 2022Cardiff Metropolitan University becomes the first university in the UK to divest from the border industry

  • November 2023 - The University of Kent, Northumbria University and Worcester University become the first English universities to divest from the border industry

  • November 2024 - UK first as Staffordshire University updates their investment policy to include both fossil fuel and border industry exclusions, in recognition of the interconnectedness of migrant and climate justice

  • December 2024 - the University of South Wales updates their investment policy to exclude both fossil fuel and border industry companies from their investments. Not only does this make Welsh universities 100% Fossil Free, it displays meaningful action in the face of the intersecting crises of climate collapse, mass displacement and increasing border violence.

For this campaign, we recognise a full divestment as the absence of investments in any of the 70 companies on the Border Divestment List. We currently recognise a commitment to screen companies involved in Border Security and Control, Detention and/or Deportation as a partial divestment from the Border Industry.
